Frequently Asked Questions – Technical Diving Courses in Mexico

What is technical diving?

Technical diving includes practices that go beyond the usual limits of recreational diving. It may involve mandatory decompression, multiple gases, Trimix, Sidemount, rebreathers or overhead environments.

What level do I need to begin a technical diving course?

The prerequisites depend on the course selected. Some programmes are accessible with an Open Water Diver certification, while advanced training requires specific certifications, experience and a minimum number of dives.

What is the difference between Cavern Diver and Cave Diver?

Cavern Diver training takes place within the zone where natural daylight remains visible. Cave Diver training prepares divers to progress beyond daylight, with more advanced planning, navigation and emergency procedures.

Is Sidemount only for technical divers?

No. Sidemount can be used in recreational diving to improve comfort, balance and access to equipment. It is also a particularly well-suited configuration for technical and cave diving.

Why complete technical diving training in the cenotes of Mexico?

The cenotes of the Riviera Maya offer excellent visibility and varied environments in which divers can develop buoyancy, propulsion, equipment-management skills and procedures specific to technical and cave diving.

Do I need to own my equipment?

This depends on the course and your configuration. Before the course begins, we review the available equipment and what will be required so that an appropriate configuration can be prepared for your training.
