Frequently Asked Questions – Scuba Diving Courses in Mexico
Which Scuba Course Should I Choose as a Beginner?
If you have never dived before, a Discover Scuba Diving experience is the best way to try the activity. You can then continue with an Open Water Diver certification, which enables you to dive independently with a buddy within the depth limits established by your certification agency.
Can I Take a Scuba Course Directly in the Cenotes of Mexico?
Yes. Depending on your certification level and the prerequisites of the course, some training dives can take place in the cenotes of the Riviera Maya. Their calm water, exceptional visibility and stable conditions make them particularly suitable for developing buoyancy, propulsion and general diving skills.
What Level Do I Need to Start Technical Diving?
Prerequisites vary between IANTD programmes. Many technical courses are available to divers holding an Advanced Open Water certification or equivalent, provided they also have the necessary diving experience. We will assess your background and recommend the most appropriate training pathway for your current level.
What Is the Difference Between Cavern Diver and Full Cave Diver Training?
The Cavern Diver course trains you to dive within the naturally lit cavern zone while remaining close to open water and the exit. The Full Cave Diver course prepares qualified divers for independent cave diving beyond daylight, using far more advanced procedures, planning, gas management and problem-solving skills.
How Long Does a Scuba Diving Course Take?
The duration depends on the course level and the student’s progression. Some recreational programmes can be completed in a few days, while cave, technical, CCR and instructor courses require more time to develop reliable skills and meet IANTD performance standards.
In Which Languages Are the Courses Available?
Courses are available in English, French and Spanish, ensuring clear communication and a thorough understanding of both theory and practical procedures.
Why Take a Scuba Diving Course in Mexico?
The Riviera Maya is internationally recognised for the quality and diversity of its dive sites. Between the Caribbean Sea and the cenotes of the Yucatán Peninsula, divers benefit from excellent year-round training conditions, exceptional visibility and varied environments for developing their skills.
Why Choose IANTD Training?
Founded in 1985, the International Association of Nitrox and Technical Divers (IANTD) is one of the pioneering organisations in technical diving. Its internationally recognised programmes emphasise safety, skill mastery and structured progression, from recreational diver to advanced technical diver and instructor.
