What Is CCR Rebreather Diving?
A CCR (Closed Circuit Rebreather) recycles the diver’s exhaled gas instead of releasing it directly into the water. Carbon dioxide is removed from the breathing loop and oxygen is added to maintain a breathable gas mixture.
Compared with open-circuit scuba, CCR diving provides more efficient gas use, precise oxygen management, significantly fewer bubbles and important advantages for longer, deeper and cave dives.
These advantages also involve additional responsibilities: rigorous preparation, continuous system monitoring, bailout planning and mastery of emergency procedures.
Triton CCR Training in Mexico
The Triton is a chest-mounted manual closed-circuit rebreather (mCCR) that can be integrated into different diving configurations.

Initial user training on JJ-CCR and Optima is not offered. However, divers who are already properly certified and experienced on their unit can complete CCR Cave training on Triton, JJ-CCR or Optima.

CCR Cave Training in the Cenotes of Mexico
The IANTD CCR Cave Diver course is designed for experienced rebreather divers who want to use a CCR in an overhead cave environment.
The cenotes of the Riviera Maya provide an exceptional environment for developing cave navigation, bailout planning, guideline procedures, zero-visibility exits, teamwork and CCR emergency procedures.
This course is not designed to teach you how to use a new rebreather. You must already be properly certified and experienced on the unit used during training.
Accepted CCR units: Triton • JJ-CCR • Optima
Bailout capacity — not the theoretical endurance of the rebreather — remains a fundamental factor when determining cave penetration.
CCR Cave Training Pathways
The program depends on your existing CCR and cave diving experience and certifications.
Already a Rebreather Introductory Cave Diver?
The CCR Cave program includes a minimum of 6 cave dives and 360 minutes of cave bottom time.
Entering without a Rebreather Introductory Cave Diver certification?
The program includes a minimum of 10 CCR cave dives and 600 minutes of cave bottom time.
Already an Open Circuit Cave Diver?
A CCR Cave crossover may be possible with a minimum of 1 confined-water session, 2 CCR cave dives and 200 minutes of cave bottom time, provided the applicable CCR experience requirements are met.
Maximum training depth under normal conditions: 40 meters.

Yes. Recreational CCR Diver training allows open-circuit divers who meet the prerequisites to learn how to dive the Triton.
Which Rebreathers Do You Teach?
Initial CCR user training is offered on the Triton only.
CCR Cave training can be conducted on Triton, JJ-CCR or Optima for divers who are already properly certified and experienced on their unit.
Is a CCR Certification Valid for Every Rebreather?
No. CCR user certification is specific to the rebreather model used during training. Additional training or a crossover may be required before diving another unit.
Can I Go Directly Into CCR Cave Training?
No. CCR Cave is an advanced course. You must already hold the required certifications, have sufficient experience on your rebreather and meet the cave diving requirements for the applicable training pathway.
Does a CCR Allow Me to Stay Underwater Much Longer?
A CCR uses breathing gases much more efficiently than open circuit. Actual dive duration is still limited by dive planning, oxygen exposure, decompression, scrubber duration, available bailout gas, thermal exposure and diving conditions.
Are CCR Courses Available in English?
Yes. CCR training can be conducted in English, French or Spanish.
