What Is the Triton CCR?
The Triton is a chest-mounted manual closed-circuit rebreather.
It can be combined with different cylinder configurations, including backmount and sidemount.
In a closed-circuit rebreather, exhaled gas is not immediately released into the water. Instead, it circulates through a breathing loop where carbon dioxide is removed before the required oxygen is added.
This technology can:
- optimize breathing-gas use;
- provide precise control of oxygen partial pressure;
- significantly reduce bubble production;
- allow a quieter approach to marine life;
- adapt the breathing mixture throughout the dive;
- optimize decompression;
- extend dive duration when planning and other limitations allow.
These advantages require specific training.
The diver must continuously monitor the rebreather, control PPO₂ and be capable of immediately switching to an open-circuit bailout system when required.
Triton-Specific CCR Certification
CCR training is specific to the rebreather model used during the course.
A certification completed on the Triton therefore does not automatically qualify a diver to use a JJ-CCR, Optima or another rebreather.
Training covers the characteristics and procedures specific to the Triton, including:
- unit assembly;
- scrubber preparation;
- breathing-loop checks;
- positive and negative pressure tests;
- oxygen-cell preparation;
- manual PPO₂ control;
- oxygen and diluent management;
- bailout configuration;
- post-dive maintenance;
- unit-specific procedures.
A diver already certified on another rebreather must complete an appropriate crossover before independently using the Triton.
