Normoxic Trimix Plus Course Structure
The Normoxic Trimix Plus program is a relatively short but demanding progression.
Skills from the previous level must already be mastered.
Theory and Dive Planning

Open-Water Training Dives
According to the IANTD standards used for the progression from Normoxic Trimix to Normoxic Trimix Plus, the program includes:
- two open-water dives;
- a minimum of 110 minutes of runtime;
- at least one dive between 63 and 75 metres / 207 and 245 feet;
- a minimum of 55 minutes of runtime on an additional dive;
- two decompression gases;
- mandatory decompression.
The final depth and dive profile depend on conditions, available breathing gases and the skills demonstrated during training.
Using Trimix to a Maximum Depth of 75 Metres
The bottom mixture is selected according to the maximum planned depth.
The IANTD standards used for this program specify the following limits.
For a Dive to 60 Metres
- minimum oxygen fraction of 19%;
- maximum PPO₂ of 1.4 during the active portion of the dive.
For a Dive to 75 Metres
- minimum oxygen fraction of 16%;
- maximum PPO₂ of 1.44 during the active portion of the dive.
The mixture must also contain an appropriate amount of helium according to the planned depth, acceptable narcosis and desired breathing-gas density.
These values represent program limits.
The final breathing mixture is selected according to the actual dive profile being planned.
Two Decompression Gases Are Required
Every dive in the program must be conducted with two decompression gases.
You must demonstrate the ability to:
- analyze each mixture;
- verify cylinder labels;
- calculate maximum operating depths;
- correctly position the cylinders;
- identify each breathing gas;
- perform gas switches;
- verify gas switches within the team;
- manage the loss of one decompression gas;
- adapt the decompression plan;
- maintain stable depth while performing procedures.
Using multiple gases provides additional decompression options, but it also requires strict discipline to prevent breathing an inappropriate mixture at the wrong depth.

Normoxic Trimix Plus Diver
This progression extends the maximum depth to 75 metres / 245 feet and further develops:
- selection of deeper breathing mixtures;
- management of two decompression gases;
- more demanding dive profiles;
- reserve-gas planning;
- emergency procedures;
- decision-making at depth.
Normoxic Trimix Plus therefore does not replace Normoxic Trimix Diver.
It is the next step in the progression.
What Comes After Normoxic Trimix Plus?
After certification and after developing sufficient experience, progression toward the IANTD Trimix Diver program may be considered.
Trimix Diver progresses beyond the Normoxic Trimix Plus level and involves:
- greater depths;
- increased autonomy;

- significant experience with dives between 42 and 60 metres.
