Day 1 – Planning and Initial Dives
The first day begins with academic training and equipment preparation.
You will study:

Dive Planning and Gas Management
Gas consumption increases directly with ambient pressure. A diver will therefore consume their cylinder significantly faster at 40 metres than at 10 metres.
During the course, you will learn to:
- determine your respiratory gas consumption;
- calculate your RMV;
- estimate consumption at the planned depth;
- calculate the gas required for the dive;
- establish an appropriate reserve;
- monitor cylinder pressure during the dive;

Course Requirements
To participate in the IANTD Deep Diver course, you must:
- hold an Advanced Open Water Diver certification or equivalent;
- provide proof of at least 20 logged dives;
- have appropriate recent diving experience;
- demonstrate suitable buoyancy control;

- be medically fit to scuba dive;

No. The maximum permitted depth is 40 metres/132 feet, but IANTD standards do not require a dive to reach exactly this depth.

Stops completed during the course are simulated decompression stops and control exercises.
Deep Deco Diver
The Deep Deco Diver course teaches you to plan and conduct dives involving limited mandatory decompression.
It has additional prerequisites, equipment requirements and procedures.
The Deep Diver certification is a prerequisite for entering the IANTD Deep Deco Diver program.
